Increasing
Another technique that you may want to learn about is known as increasing. This is going to allow you to lengthen out the project, something that can be nice if you would like to add a bit more air to the project or it is not quite as big as you were hoping in terms of size with clothing and an accessory. It is going to help to lengthen out the project, and will ensure that you are able to make the project the right size without having to tear out the work that you have already done or make a lot of changes along the way.
It is pretty easy to increase the row that you are working on by a stitch. You will basically need to work two or three stitches into this stitch. So to start, you will need to work the first stitch just like you normally would. Now go back and insert the crochet hook into the stitch that you have just worked on in order to make the second stitch. You will now have increased the row by one single stitch.
If you would like to increase by more stitches (you are able to increase by however many of these stitches as you would like), you simply need to repeat the process again. For the most part, your pattern will be able to tell you how many stitches you should crochet together in order to get the right amount of increase to occur. Some terms to keep in mind for doing this to make things easier, especially when you are reading through your pattern, include:
Dc2tog= this one means that you should double crochet 2 together.
Dc3tog= this one means that you should double crochet 3 together
Tr3tog= treble crochet 3 together
